Start mining in 3 steps

The easiest way: the free Block Zero wallet has a miner built in. You do not need a command line, a pool account or any extra software.

  1. 1

    Download the wallet

Use the big download button at the top of this page. It picks the right file for your system.

    ⬇ Download the wallet
  2. 2

    Install and open it

Windows: double-click the file, click through the installer, then open Block Zero. If Windows warns about an unknown publisher, click More info → Run anyway (the app is not code-signed yet; you can check the file's checksum on the download page). Linux and macOS: the steps are on the list of all files.

  3. 3

    Open “Mining” and press Start

In the wallet's top bar click Mining (shortcut Alt+5), press Start mining and confirm the question. Mined coins arrive in this same wallet; the payout address is created for you.

Simplified illustration of the Mining tab in the wallet.

Wallet
The app that holds your coins and your address. Block Zero's wallet also contains the miner.
Mining
Your computer's processor (CPU) helps secure the network and can earn BLOZ for it. It uses electricity and makes the computer warmer. You can stop at any time.
Address
Your “account number” (starts with bz1). The wallet creates it for you.
Pool
A group of miners that share rewards. For beginners it is not needed: the wallet's built-in mining takes care of it.

Antivirus programs often flag CPU miners as “riskware”; this is normal for every miner. What you earn depends on your computer and the network, and nothing is guaranteed. Prefer the command line, or want to run a server? See Advanced below.

Check the file before you run it

Every file has a SHA-256 checksum, published next to it in the GitHub release. Compare the number your computer prints with the one shown above — they must match exactly. The builds are not code-signed or notarized yet, so this is the check that counts.

SHA-256 — one line per system
# Windows (PowerShell, in your Downloads folder)
Get-FileHash .\blockzero-*-windows-x64-setup.exe -Algorithm SHA256

# Linux (also checks against the .sha256 file if you downloaded it)
sha256sum blockzero-*-linux-*.AppImage
sha256sum -c blockzero-*-linux-*.AppImage.sha256

# macOS
shasum -a 256 blockzero-*-macos-arm64.tar.gz

Questions people ask before installing

Windows says “Windows protected your PC” — is the file safe?
That is SmartScreen, shown for every program without a paid code-signing certificate. Verify the SHA-256 above, then click More info → Run anyway. Antivirus tools may also flag the optional built-in miner — they flag every CPU miner.
Linux: the AppImage does nothing when I double-click it.
Make it executable first: chmod +x blockzero-*.AppImage, then run it. On Ubuntu 22.04 and newer install FUSE 2 once: sudo apt install libfuse2. Prefer the tar.gz if you want the binaries in a normal folder (needs the Qt 6 runtime from your distribution, see the steps above).
macOS: “Block Zero is damaged and can’t be opened.”
Gatekeeper says this for unsigned apps, nothing is broken. Run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Block Zero.app" in Terminal, or use the one-line installer shown in the macOS steps. Only Apple Silicon (M1 or newer) builds are published; Intel Macs build from source.
Is there an Android or iOS app?
Not yet. The wallet is a desktop full node. On a phone you can still mine on the pool to any bz1 address you own and watch balances in the explorer.
How long does the first start take?
The wallet downloads the chain from the seed node (217.160.46.61:8210) — a few minutes on a normal connection. Afterwards it stays in sync by itself. Your receive address is in the Receive tab; mining starts in the Mining tab.
Which wallet file do I back up?
Use File → Backup Wallet… in the app and keep the wallet.dat somewhere safe (and encrypt the wallet under Settings → Encrypt Wallet…). Full guide: how-to-use-wallet.md ↗.
